macht.sprache. will develop an app to foster politically sensitive translation between German & English. A year-long collaborative process will lead to the final translation tool. We begin with phase 1: On machtsprache.de, everyone who is interested can collect politically sensitive terms, as well as enter and discuss translation examples from books, films, newspapers, etc.. This knowledge will ultimately flow into the app towards the end of the year. We look forward to the exchange!
On Wednesday, 14.04.2021, at 19:30h poco.lit. and völlig ohne invite you to the kick-off of phase 1 on Zoom. Chidera Nitsche, the bookstagrammer @eine.schwarze.liest.buecher, will guide us through the evening. The project team – Anna von Rath, Lucy Gasser, Timur Celikel and Kolja Lange – will introduce macht.sprache. and show you how to participate.
Afterwards, everyone is welcome to try out macht.sprache. for themselves and join in the discussion.
macht.sprache. is bilingual and is about translations from German to English and from English to German. The launch event will be mostly in German. Unfortunately, we don’t have a budget for sign language interpretation and there won’t be subtitles. Written insights into the creation of the app can be found here.
macht.sprache. is supported by the Berlin Senate.
