Casino Extended: Poetisch Politisch

17 authors discuss the meanings of being “Poetisch politisch” (poetic political). From March 28 to April 5. Every day at 6pm.

On March 18, 2020, 14 authors were to occupy three rooms of the Literary Colloquium in Berlin: The magazine “PS – Politisch Schreiben”, the authors’ collective “Literatur für das, was passiert” and Max Czollek for political poetry each designed one room. Unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled due to the known reasons. What else could they do but simply extend the Casino to 17 rooms, record indoor and outdoor with the technology available, and extend the whole event to 9 evenings: Casino Extended.

The three curators begin with a Skype talk that has become a podcast: a conversation about their own experiences at the interface of art and politics, of beauty and morality. Afterwards, videos will appear daily at 6 p.m.: each of the three initiatives will show up with three videos of readings and performances.

What does it mean to write politically engaged texts? Does apolitical literature even exist? Which voices are heard in the literary world and which are not? How can the voices of the marginalized be made audible – not only in the context of art, but also in politics and society? Why is this important and how can solidarity be manifested in writing? And what are the pitfalls of such projects? In this way, the authors also provide insight into their work and the questions that arise in the space between poetology and politics. They occupy the digital LCB and offer the opportunity to be part of polyphonic and stimulating discussions and readings. Either daily during airtime or straight away: we open the doors to the home of political literature and invite you to explore it.
